How to start a Manchester United Supporters' Club in your city

Manchester United recognizes branches abroad as Manchester United Supporters’ Clubs, MUSCs, and lists them in a directory by region. A US branch meets at the same bar for every match, early kickoffs included, and is the reason a fan who lands in a new city can find the room with the sound on. This guide covers what the club asks for, what to have ready, and how to get found once you are official.

What Manchester United requires

The club’s How to Form a Supporters’ Club page is unusually specific, and every figure below is from it.

• At least 10 members who are Manchester United Official Members or Season Ticket Holders.
• A lead contact and a deputy, both Official Members or Season Ticket Holders, who can liaise regularly with the club.
• For tickets, 50. To access the Supporters’ Club ticket allocation, at least 50 of your members need to be Official Members registered in the same country.
• Apply by email to musc@manutd.co.uk with the name, address, phone number and email of the lead contact and deputy, the social media handles the group uses, and the names and Supporter IDs of every Official Member and Season Ticket Holder in the group, so the club can verify the threshold. Each person should confirm they agree to their details being sent.
• Agree to the Code of Conduct. A group that meets the criteria becomes a MUSC once it agrees to the Supporters’ Club Code of Conduct.

The page does not state a fee payable to the club, and it does not set a naming rule. Branches commonly carry Manchester United Supporters Club or MUSC and the place name; confirm yours with the club before you print it.

Before you apply

• A bar that will show every United match with sound, including 7:30 am Saturday kickoffs and midweek European nights.
• Ten people who hold Official Membership or a season ticket, with their Supporter IDs and a note from each agreeing to share them.
• A lead contact and a deputy, both Official Members, who will actually answer the club's emails.
• Social accounts with some history: the pub, the kickoff routine, photos from the matches you have already watched together.
• A name that says Manchester United and says your city.

   The supporters clubs directory lists branches by region, the US included. If your metro has one, join it. If it meets an hour away, say so in your email.

   The club sends it once you meet the criteria. Read it as a committee, since it is what you are signing everyone up to.

   That is the threshold for the ticket allocation. Nobody needs it to watch at the pub, but it is what makes a branch worth joining for the fan who wants to see Old Trafford once.

After you are official

• Announce it from your account and the bar’s, and tell the nearest other branches so they can send people your way.
• Meet every match. League Cup on a Tuesday night included.
• Keep the schedule public. Next kickoff in local time, doors-open time, any change of room.
• Keep the member list current. Official Memberships renew; the count the club holds should match the one you hold.
