Privacy Policy

The short version

Accounts are free. We use information to run the site, remember your soccer interests, support contributions, send relevant updates and understand usage. Some browsing activity is linked to your account when you are signed in. Public contributions and maps you choose to share can be seen by others. We do not sell personal information for money.

Information you provide

• Accounts and profiles. We collect your email and authentication information. Your profile can include your name, photo, phone number, home metro and email preferences. Google sign-in provides account information such as your email, name and profile image, but not your Google password.
• Soccer interests and contributions. We store places, cities and teams you follow, visits, contribution points and activity, submissions, claims, edits, photos and associated source or credit details. Submissions can include public contact details, addresses, descriptions, prices, schedules and links.
• My Map. We store your selected venues, visit activities, optional visit dates, collection progress and sharing choices with your account. Recording a visit does not require proof of your physical location.
• Communications. We collect newsletter and event-alert subscriptions, support messages, listing or coach inquiries and partnership requests, including the details and message you provide. For new newsletter choices, we record the time, source and wording version; signup choices are linked to your authenticated account and email. A temporary first-party cookie carries your choice through sign-in and expires within an hour.
• Optional purchases. Creating an account does not require payment details. If you separately choose a paid offer made available on the site, Stripe processes payment. We may receive contact information, payment status, subscription or transaction identifiers and limited billing details, but not full card numbers.

We also compile listing information from public sources, official organization websites and community submissions. This may include publicly listed business or organizer contact information. Contact us to correct information or request removal of personal details.

Location, searches and browser storage

Your browser asks permission before sharing device location. If you allow it, coordinates can be precise. The public map uses them to find nearby places and may send them to our map search endpoint. Typed city, ZIP, address and place searches may be sent to our servers or mapping and geocoding providers. You can decline location access, search by city instead, or revoke access in your browser settings.

The hometown soccer history tool calculates with device coordinates in your browser. Its city and ZIP lookup sends the typed search to our server. A history-story link or exported image you choose to share can reveal the location used for that story. Review it before sharing.

• Guest saves. Places, cities and teams saved before sign-in are held in this browser. On sign-in, those saves transfer to your account for use on other devices. Clearing browser data does not delete account saves.
• Preview timers. Local storage remembers used guest preview time for the public map, MLS history and USL history. The public map also uses a server-issued preview cookie. Clearing local storage does not necessarily restart the server allowance.
• Returning to your view. Browser history, session storage and local storage preserve searches, filters, selected seasons and regions, map position and browsing position. Settings can include a location you allowed us to use. Sign-in return records, GIF return records and map view snapshots are usable for one hour; expired records are ignored or removed when accessed.
• Authentication and preferences. Cookies and browser storage keep you signed in and remember interface choices. Other local records, including preview usage and the analytics browser identifier below, may remain until you clear browser data.

Usage measurement

Our first-party analytics record public page paths, timestamps, an identifier stored in your browser, referring pages, browser information, visible time and whether you interacted. We also record search text, result counts and selected listing actions, such as choosing a map result or clicking directions, website, phone, social, registration or calendar links. Avoid including sensitive personal information in search text.

When you are signed in, accepted activity can be associated with your account. Authorized administrators can review it alongside your follows, visits and contributions to improve the service, investigate problems and support users. Listing organizers receive aggregate activity results, rather than your individual browsing history. These analytics do not record a video of your session or every keystroke.

Private My Map routes, shared private-map links, admin pages and the hometown history tool are excluded from our page and listing analytics and from Google Analytics. The service and its providers still process requests needed to operate those features and may keep technical logs.

Google Analytics also runs on public pages. It uses its own cookies and processes usage and device information on Google's systems. We do not send your SoccerMapd account ID to Google Analytics. Analytics currently load on public pages without a site-wide consent banner. You can manage or block cookies and scripts in your browser and use Google's Analytics opt-out add-on. That add-on does not disable our first-party analytics. We do not currently alter analytics in response to browser Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signals. How we use information

• Provide accounts, searches, personalized maps, saves, downloads and other requested features.
• Review contributions and claims, maintain listings, credit contributions and respond to inquiries.
• Personalize local and matchday information. Following a city or place can set an initially empty home metro; you can change it in your profile.
• Send sign-in links, submission updates and other service messages. Newsletter signup is optional and separate from creating an account. New accounts start with weekly roundup and matchday emails turned off; you can enable these in your dashboard. Existing accounts retain their saved email preferences. Following a place, city or team does not by itself subscribe a new account to those emails. Event alerts require a separate choice.
• Understand usage, troubleshoot issues, maintain security, limit abusive requests and enforce our Terms of Service.
• Respond to legal requests and administer a paid offer if you choose one.

What is shared, and with whom

• Public content. Approved listings, events, coach profiles, products, photos, descriptions and their public contact or credit fields can be visible to anyone and indexed by search engines. Private reviewer notes and account email addresses are not automatically published with a listing.
• Shared maps. My Map visit details are private to your account by default. When you create a shared map, anyone with its link can see its title, chosen display name and included places. That view excludes visit dates and activities. You can disable a link or remove shared places, but cannot recall screenshots, downloads or copies others already made.
• Service providers. Providers include Render for hosting; Supabase for accounts, database and file storage; Resend for email; Google for sign-in and analytics; MapTiler and CARTO for maps using OpenStreetMap data; and Stripe if a paid checkout is used. Address verification may also use OpenStreetMap's Nominatim or the U.S. Census geocoder. Providers may receive IP addresses and request information when your browser connects to them.
• People you contact. Sending a coach or listing inquiry shares your message and contact details with its intended recipient.
• Legal matters and transfers. We may disclose information when legally required or reasonably needed to protect rights, safety or the service. Information may transfer in a sale or reorganization, subject to applicable law and the privacy commitments attached to it.

Linked retailers, embedded content and external directions or social sites have their own privacy practices. Affiliate retailers or networks may use referral identifiers and cookies to attribute purchases. See our Affiliate Disclosure. A future revenue model does not by itself authorize new uses of your personal information.

Your choices and requests

Use your dashboard to edit profile details and email preferences, unfollow saved interests, manage visits and disable shared maps. Unsubscribe links control the email category described by that link. Essential account and service messages may still be sent.

To request access, correction, a copy of your information, account deletion or removal of a contribution or photo, email hello@soccermapd.com. Identify the account and request; do not email passwords or payment card details. We may ask for reasonable verification. Account deletion is currently handled by request, rather than a self-service button. Removing public factual listing information is different from deleting a contributor's personal account information.

Depending on applicable law, you may also have rights to restrict or object to processing, withdraw consent, appeal a decision or complain to a privacy authority. We will respond as required by applicable law. Using the site does not waive those rights or replace consent where it is required.

Retention and security

We retain account information, contributions and related records while needed to provide the service, address support and moderation issues, satisfy legal obligations and resolve disputes. There is currently no fixed automatic deletion period for all analytics records. Contact us to request deletion. Some records may remain for legal or security reasons; public factual listings may remain after an account is removed. Provider logs and backups have separate retention settings, and removal from backups may take additional time.

We use access controls and other technical measures to protect information, but no system is completely secure. Do not upload confidential material or put private information into public content. Some photo tools strip camera metadata, but do not assume every uploaded or imported file is free of identifying information.

Children and international visitors

Accounts and submissions are for adults 18 and older. Parents and guardians can research youth soccer programs on behalf of their children. The service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. Contact us if you believe a child has supplied personal information so we can investigate and remove it as appropriate.

We operate in the United States. Providers may process information in the United States and other countries whose privacy laws differ from yours. Applicable legal protections still apply; visiting the site alone is not consent to a transfer that legally requires separate consent.

Changes and contact

We will update the date above when this policy changes and provide additional notice for material changes where required. Before introducing materially different data uses, including those associated with future advertising or paid features, we will update relevant notices and obtain consent where required. Changes do not retroactively remove protections promised for information already collected.
